Jared Jones Commits To Northwestern

McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) High School power forward Jared Jones verbally committed to the Northwestern Wildcats today, becoming the second member of head coach Chris Collins’ 2019 recruiting class.

A three-star prospect, Jones made his announcement via Twitter.

Jones, who took an official visit to Northwestern the weekend of September 15, chose the Wildcats over a final group that included Georgia, Minnesota, Mississippi State and Wake Forest. The No. 43 ranked power forward in the 2019 class, Jones was scheduled to visit Georgia this weekend, but canceled that visit as well as scheduled visits to his two other finalists.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

“There were a lot of people who were adamant about recruiting me but Coach Collins, his energy was different. And it wasn’t just him it was the whole coaching staff. I really feel like when I go there I can be pushed to be the best I can be. The players, when I went there on my official, made me feel really welcomed. When I go away to college I don’t want to feel homesick or anything, so being around a group of dudes you enjoy being around and enjoy playing with, that will lessen that feeling. I really liked being around those dudes, I liked Chicago and the Northwestern area.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

The search for a big in the 2019 recruiting class continues. The Deacons must add a big man this cycle and may reach out to available power forwards like Tyson Jackson, Issa Muhammad, and Karim Coulibaly. The staff could also go the JuCo route and add a big man that would only use a scholarship for two seasons. Of course there are always high school players, usually bigs, who emerge as legit Division I prospects during their senior season that Wake could pursue and sign in the spring.
