ACC Against the Spread Picks - week one

Every week I will make my against the spread picks for games in the ACC. I've always been intrigued with watching the Vegas lines, so I'm really happy to have my own weekly column on guessing these games.

Beware: my picks probably won't be very good, so proceed with caution!

I'll post my record of how many I had right/wrong each week as well.

Here were my picks from Thursday's game that I posted on the DeaconsIllustrated.com premium message board. I didn't have time to get the full article up earlier in the week.

Charlotte @ Louisville -39.5

Thursday 7pm

The pick: Charlotte +39.5

Louisville is a really good football team and a real dark horse in the ACC. Their offense is absolutely electric, but to win by 40? I don't think so.

-- I was wrong here!! Lamar Jackson was ridiculous.. Eight touchdowns in the first half!

Tulane @ Wake Forest -17

Thursday 7pm

The pick: Tulane +17

My score prediction was Wake Forest wins 31-17, and I'll stick with that.

-- I was far from right on the score prediction, but I was right on the spread pick.

William Mary @ NC State -30.5

Thursday 7:30pm

The pick: William Mary +30.5

Is NC State really that good enough to beat a quality FCS opponent by over 30? Maybe. But I'll take William Mary against the spread.

-- Wrong again!

I didn't make a pick on the Syracuse-Colgate game. I missed that one.

Now for my picks on Saturday's games..

Georgia Tech -3 vs Boston College

This game will be played at Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland.

Saturday 7:30 AM

The pick: GT -3

Boston College has had a long time to prep for the triple option, so they should be able to stop it, right? Wrong.

North Carolina vs Georgia -3

This game will be played at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.

Saturday 5:30pm

The pick: UGA -3

A virtual home game for Georgia. UNC is pretty good, but I'll take Georgia because of their rushing attack.

Ole Miss vs FSU -4.5

Monday night 8PM

This game will be played at the Camping Worlds Stadium in Orlando

The pick: Ole Miss +4.5

A really tough game to predict. Looking at the QB's, I'll take Ole Miss' Kelly over FSU's Francois. It'll be Francois' first start.

Clemson -9 @ Auburn

Sat 9pm

The pick: Auburn +9

I really don't have much reason here other than Clemson is being hyped to be the next '85 Bears and I think they might let it get to their heads.

Liberty @ Virginia Tech -28.5

Saturday 12:30pm

The pick: Virginia Tech -28.5

I've missed on all of my underdog picks, so I'll pick a favorite here.

Villanova vs Pittsburgh - 26

Saturday 1:30pm

The pick: Pittsburgh -26

See above.

Richmond vs Virginia -12

Saturday 3:30pm

The pick: Virginia -12

Richmond is a really good FCS program every year, but this line seems a little low.

Florida A&M vs Miami -53

Saturday 6pm

The pick: Florida A&M +53

Miami is a 53 point favorite? That's wild. Whenever I see lines this big, I go with the underdog, although Charlotte already failed me this week.

NC Central vs Duke -33.5

Saturday 6pm

The pick: NC Central +33.5

NC Central is supposed to have a pretty good offense, so my guess is that they'll score enough in garbage time to cover the spread.
