Wake Forest Basketball Announces 2017 Recruiting Class
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning announced today that two prospective student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Wake Forest beginning in the summer of 2017.
Guard Chaundee Brown (Orlando, Fla.) and forward/guard Melo Eggleston (Upper Marlboro, Md.) signed their official commitments this week to join the Demon Deacons next season.
Brown, a 6-5 guard from First Academy in Orlando, is a four-star recruit who is a consensus top-40 player in the class of 2017. Ranked No. 30 in the class by ESPN, he is the highest ranked player to sign with the Demon Deacons in nine years. Brown is ranked as one of the top-10 shooting guards in the class by ESPN, Rivals, Scout and 247 Sports and chose the Demon Deacons over Kansas, Florida and Maryland.
“Chaundee is a very talented, athletic wing that we are very excited to have him be a part of our program,” said Manning. “He is one of the highest ranked recruits to come to Wake Forest in recent years and he will have an impact from day one. He is capable of being a very good two-way player and can score the basketball at all three levels, beyond the 3-point line, in-between and at the rim. Physically, he has the body to be an excellent defender as well. He has been well-coached by Anthony Ricks and Edward Francis at the AAU level and by Chris Mayberry at First Academy. We are excited to welcome Chaundee into our family, along with his parents, Chelsea and Chaundee, Sr.”
Eggleston is a 6-8, three-star forward/guard who is rated as one of the top-30 small forwards in the class of 2017. He is playing this season at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., and chose the Demon Deacons over offers from over a dozen power conference schools.
“Melo is a player who we believe is extremely versatile,” said Manning. “There will be times where he could play anywhere from point guard, two guard, small forward or power forward, depending on the matchups and what we are trying to accomplish offensively and defensively. He has been all-in since the day he committed and we are excited to have him. His mom, Timika, has done a wonderful job with him and he has some very good mentors in his life to help him get to this point in his career. His post-grad coach, Ryan Hurd at Notre Dame Prep, is also someone we know has prepared him well for his career at Wake Forest.”
Brown and Eggleston will enroll at Wake Forest this summer and join the Demon Deacons beginning with the 2017-18 season.
