Wake Forest to hire Jamill Jones as new assistant coach

Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning will hire Central Florida (UCF) assistant Jamill Jones as an assistant Deacons Illustrated has learned.

Jones, spent the 2016-17 season as an assistant at UCF, helping guide the program to a 24-12 record and the semifinals of the National Invitational Tournament. In the NIT the Knights upset Illinois State and Illinois before falling to eventual tournament champion TCU 68-53.

Prior to his season at UCF, the Washington, D.C. native was an assistant at VCU and Florida Gulf Coast. Before beginning his collegiate career, Jones spent five years as an assistant coach with Nike Team Takeover in Washington, D.C.

A 2008 graduate of Arkansas Tech, Jones also played one season at North Platte Community College where he is one of 50 players in the program’s history to be named to the Athletic Department’s Hall of Fame.

Jones is expected to take over assistant coaching duties previously held by Brett Ballard who left Wake Forest for a head coaching job at Washburn University.
