Wake Forest is getting a champion in Powell

Fayetteville (Ark.) pro-style quarterback Taylor Powell had nothing short of an incredible high school career.

Powell led Fayetteville to back-to-back Class 7A state titles, and was named MVP of the Class 7A state title game both years.

Powell finished his career 5th in Arkansas history for passing yardage and 8th in touchdowns. He was named the Gatorade Player of the Year and the 2016 ArkansasVarsity.com Mr. Football.

His stats were incredible as he was 237-of-348 for 3,473 yards with 44 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2016. He also added six rushing touchdowns on the ground. For his career, Powell threw for 10,413 yards and 113 touchdowns.

"It was all about our team," Powell said. "We had a great group of seniors, so for us to go out back to back was really special.

"Our community support was huge, and the city of Fayetteville was behind us. It was no individual effort - just blue collar hard work from everyone."

The Wake Forest coaching staff is also excited about what Powell was able to accomplish for his team.

"They congratulated me on winning state and having a great season," Powell said. "They can't wait for me to get there."

Powell is firm in his Wake Forest commitment and is not considering any other schools. He will sign a letter of intent on February 1.
