WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman guard Chase Fischer has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week after averaging 11.5 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting 57.1 percent from the field in Wake Forest's two games last week.
In Wake Forest's 81-72 win over Georgia Southern on Wednesday, Fischer scored 13 points and added three assists, three steals and a block in 32 minutes off the bench. The Ripley, W.Va., native went 4-for-9 from the field and hit a pair of 3-pointers.

In Wake Forest's 93-79 defeat of NC Central on Sunday, Fischer scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and dished out five assists with two steals in 27 minutes off the bench.
For Wake Forest, Fischer's award marked the Demon Deacons' 19th ACC Rookie of the Week honor in the past five seasons. That total, which includes three awards for Travis McKie in 2010-11, easily out-distances Duke who is second during that time frame with nine rookie awards.
On the season, Fischer is averaging 8.3 points and 3.0 assists per game.
Wake Forest is 3-0 on the year, as the Deacons prepare for the Old Spice Classic this week in Orlando. Wake will take on Dayton on Thursday, Nov. 24, and then face either Arizona State or Fairfield on Friday.
