After two amazing seasons on the field for Wake Forest, star slot receiver and return Specialist Greg Dortch declared for the NFL draft on Sunday.
From Wake Forest:
“Greg informed us of his decision and we support him 100 percent,” said Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson. “Greg was an exceptional player for us at Wake Forest the past two seasons. He is a very skilled receiver, a dynamic punt and kick returner, and a great teammate. We look forward to watching his future success. He will always be a Demon Deacon.”
Dortch, a redshirt sophomore, was a first team All-ACC selection at both return specialist and all-purpose back in 2018. He earned first team All-America honors at punt returner from the Football Writers Association of America and was a second team pick by the Associated Press as an all-purpose player. In addition, Dortch was named first team All-American at return specialist by Sports Illustrated and first team punt returner by Pro Football Focus.
On the season, Dortch had a team-leading 89 receptions for 1,078 yards and eight touchdowns. He led the ACC in all-purpose yards during the regular season with 1,750, an average of 145.8 per game. Dortch finishes his Wake Forest career with 19 career touchdowns in 20 games.
His 1,078 receiving yards this past season ranks as the second-most in a season by a Demon Deacon, trailing only Chris Givens who had 1,330 yards in 2011. Dortch’s 1,750 all-purpose yards is also the second-most in a season behind Kenny Moore’s 1,854 in 2007.
In December, Dortch was honored with the ACC’s Brian Piccolo Award, given annually to the conference’s most courageous player.
Dortch is the fourth Demon Deacon to leave early for the NFL, joining LB Jon Abbate (2007), WR Chris Givens (2012) and S Jessie Bates (2018).
