Wake vs. VMI: post-game Q-&-A's
Codi Miller-McIntyre combined for more than 40 points the second game in a row to lead Wake Forest (2-0) to a 98-71 win over VMI (2-1).Winston-Salem, NC -
Coaches and players spoke with members of the media following the game.
Wake Forest forward Tyler Cavanaugh
On the three-point shooting against VMI: "I mean the three will come. Me and Coron struggled tonight a little bit from three but they'll come I know will make them, but Madison [Jones] and Codi did a great job pushing the tempo and getting easy baskets in the transition which were gonna pride ourselves on this year."
Do you think the missed threes tonight were because of VMI's pressure on the ball and their athleticism or were you guys just off? "No, it was just an off game for us. We'll knock them down. I'm not really worried about that."
Wake Forest guard Codi Miller-McIntyre
On the game: "We just hung with them the first couple minutes and then took the lead and I think as a team we're looking real mature and smarter and we know we have to put games like this out, we got to run up the score as much as possible."
Codi, do you just feel comfortable out there? "Definitely. I believe we all worked to hard to not go out there and show everything we worked on."
Wake Forest head coach Jeff Bzdelik
On the game: "As far as the game is concerned we did a really good job of sticking to the game plan and that game plan was to defend the best we could, to keep them in front of us, make them take contested shots and then rebound the ball and then run them back."
Coach, talk about attacking the rim codi did another great job of that tonight. "That's where our defense has to come in, because when we get stops and we finish we're a handful in the open court. We really are and we have a team that is built to do that and I like the fact that we were unselfish with 20 assist on 30 baskets. We had four guys in double digits and you know our strength is our depth and everybody needs and should contribute."
VMI head coach Duggar Baucom
Opening statement: "I credit Wake Forest, they played well. They made just about every shot they wanted. Especially once D.J. Covington[/db] went out in the first half with foul trouble."
"Devin Thomas was a beast. He played really, really well. Codi Miller-McIntyre was just driving it to the rim and we didn't have much answer for him. But I'm proud of my kids. A lot of my young kids played really well, but we have a lot to build on."
