Wake in the mix for Keihn

Baltimore (Md.) Gilman School rising senior outside linebacker Melvin Keihn, who claims 13 scholarship offers, including one from Wake Forest, is hearing from a bunch of schools.

Illinois is the most recent school to join his list of scholarship offers.

Keihn, who wants to major in engineering, does not have a leader in his recruitment, but is impressed with the academics at UVA, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Illinois and Pitt.

"[I'm looking for] a school with great academics," Keihn said. "That's the one thing I'm really focused on."

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder, who is rated as a four-star recruit and the nation's No. 243 overall prospect by Rivals.com, does not have a leader in his recruitment, but is impressed with the academics at UVA, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Illinois and Pitt.

Demon Deacon offensive line coach Jonathan Himebauch is Keihn's area recruiter for Wake Forest.

"They're [Wake] in the mix," Keihn said. "Last week they contacted me. The coach messages me once in a while since they're not allowed to call."

Keihn is working with his coach to schedule two to three visits to different schools for the spring, but is unsure of where they will be.

"I don't really do camps, because during the summer I work out with my teammates," Keihn said. "We have to get our chemistry started, so I don't really do camps. I just continue work out with my teammates."

"Once again, academics is one of my priorities, and I know Wake Forest's got great academics and that's what I'm always looking for and I'm definitely going to try to get up there and I will get up there probably during the summer [to] check the coaches out and check the school out."

The 2014 Maryland product does not have a timetable for when he hopes to choose a school.

"I'm looking for probably whenever I'm ready, kind of like around August, probably Septemberish," Keihn said. "I'm not sure."

"I usually tell people probably before my senior season or after the season. I'm not sure. It depends. I could actually commit in the middle of the season, but it just depends whenever I'm ready, whenever I feel like I'm ready to settle down, I'm ready for it and I've found the right place."

Keihn recorded 56 tackles, 14 sacks, nine tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries, including one he returned for a touchdown as a junior.

"I also run track, so I have a great amount of speed," Keihn said. "Also, my pass-rushing skills are really good."
