The Return of Real Scout

SOUTH JAMAICA, NY - Nate Blue's Real Scout team has been absent from the iS8/Nike tournaments for a hot minute.

Known for bringing fully loaded squads to the event, the Queens, NY team was underwhelming during their last stint in the iS8 a couple of years ago. This, however, was not the case on Sunday as Real Scout came correct, reemerging onto the scene to play their first two pool play games in the iS8/Nike Spring High School Classic.

Real Scout Trounces Hard 2 Guard, 99-36

In their opening game, Real Scout proved that their opponent was actually not too hard to guard afterall. In fact, Hard 2 Guard Sport Academy from Harrisburg, PA was quite simply out of their league. The game started out with Harvard bound Max Hooper dropping five treys to open up the first quarter, forcing H2G to call timeout in an attempt to lick their wounds and stop the bleeding. Additional buckets from St. John's bound Jakarr Sampson would extend the Real Scout lead to 18 points as the second quarter began.

With Rudy Collins and Tavon Sledge putting up points for Real Scout and H2G only able to produce 8 points in the seconds quarter, the Harrisburg team found themselves down 53- 19 at the half. The point spread became progressively worse from quarter to quarter as the Real Scout would win their debut game by 63 points.

Hopper led Real Scout with 17 points with Sampson and Collins adding 14 points each. Reggie Dudley was the only player on Hard 2 Guard Sports Academy to achieve double digits with 11 points.

Real Scout Scoops Up Gotham Hoops, 97-66

The second game of the day for Real Scout against local product, Gotham Hoops was competitive early on as Isaiah Morton gave GC a brief lead early in the first quarter. That would end up being their only lead as Tavon Sledge quickly gave Real Scout a 21-15 advantage as the second quarter began.

The Real Scout lead would be extended to 13 points as a Sledge, P.J. Torres and Jakarr Sampson initiated a 7-0 run. An and-1 by Davonne Henry with 2 seconds left to play in the half would cut the lead but Maurice Harkless would draw a foul at the buzzer to give Real Scout a 47-34 lead at the recess.

Morton and Manny Thomas came out early in the third reduced the Real Scout lead to 9 points. Trivante Bloodman and Sampson would re-extend the Real Scout lead to 56-41 as Kareem Canty arrived late after playing in a Connecticut tournament. Canty's play shifted the momentum for Gotham Hoops and they managed to close the gap to 10 points going into the final quarter.

Marcus Romain scored early in the fourth to slice into Real Scout lead even more but after an 8-2 run followed by an episode, two techs and the ejection of 6'8" underachiever Dashawn Blonton, Gotham Hoops' deficit grew to 84-63 as their momentum plummeted. Real Scout's lead grew to 25 points late in the quarter and Coach Blue subbed out and cruised to victory.

Sledge was high man for Real Scout with 18 points with Sampson and Harkless adding 16 points apiece. Morton paced the Gotham Hoops with 18 points with Henry contributing 11 points.
