Mathis headed to the Pac-10
Dior Mathis told everyone who his favorite was all along, but he had trouble convincing many.SAN ANTONIO - Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech cornerback
Maybe it was because his former teammate, defensive tackle William Campbell, faked everyone out last year by eliminating Michigan during the week leading up to the U.S. Army All American Bowl before eventually choosing the Wolverines or simply because Cass Tech has recently fed prospects to Ann Arbor.
Whatever the reason, Mathis proved to everyone he was a man of his word during his announcement on Saturday when he pledged to Oregon.
"It was the academics and the coaches that really inspired me to go to Oregon," Mathis sais. "That's where I want to spend my next four years."
Mathis is ranked as the nation's No. 15 cornerback and is No. 239 overall. The 5-foot-9, 166-pounder liked Oregon early, but truly fell in love on his official visit in December.
"The whole trip was simply amazing to be honest," he said of his visit for the Civil War, the annual rivalry game between Oregon and Oregon State. "I have never experienced anything like that before. From the game, to the time spent with the team and the coaches, it was just crazy."
Mathis is the fifth defensive back in the 2010 Oregon class.
