2012 PG set to visit Iowa
With a couple more scholarships yet to be filled in the Class of 2012, Coach Fran McCaffery appears to be looking hard at adding another point guard for next season. It appears that Anthony Clemmons could be the guy he has his sights set on at the moment. The 6-foot-1 point guard from Lansing, MI will be making his official visit to Iowa City later this month.
"My interest in them is high," Clemmons said on Monday. "I am looking forward to going down there on an official visit on the 24th. The coaches tell me that they really like my style of play and how I play defense. I think their interest in me is pretty high right now."
In addition to the Iowa visit, the Hawkeye coaches will be making their way to Sexton High School in Lansing on Wednesday to get another look at Clemmons.
"They are planning on coming to see me on Wednesday at my high school. Coach McCaffery and Coach Dillard are coming to watch me at an open gym," he said. "I hear from both Coach McCaffery and Coach Dillard. I will call them and they will call me. I talk to them about academics and they ask about how I am doing in school. I've had really good conversations with them through the entire recruiting process and I look forward to seeing them this week."
Along with the Iowa visit, Clemmons is set to make an official visit to Northern Illinois this coming weekend. He currently holds offers from Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, and Detroit.
In August, Clemmons gave a verbal commitment to Eastern Michigan only to re-open the recruiting process two weeks later by de-committing.
"I just felt like I committed to early and wanted to weigh out all my options. I probably got caught up in the excitement of it and I just wanted to visit a few more schools before I really settled on a school."
While he waits to see if the Hawkeye coaches will extend a scholarship offer, he can't help but think about what that might do to his recruitment. One thing he likely won't do is jump back into another commitment quickly.
"If they do offer me, I really don't know how it will impact me. I need to make the visit. I don't think I would commit on the spot simply because I committed quickly the last time and that's in my head. I want to make sure that this time when I commit it is the right choice," he said.
