Price gets big offer

This past weekend Josiah Price of Eastern High School in Greenwood, Indiana came up to Michigan State's camp with the intent on receiving a Spartan scholarship offer with a strong performance. SpartanMag.com just spoke with the 6-foot-5, 243-pound Price and he informed us that his hard worked paid off and he now has a full ride to Michigan State University.

SpartanMag.com scouted Price at the NIKE Camp and we were surprised that at the time he was not getting serious Big Ten/BCS attention. Based on our observations he has the type of skills that pro-style offenses look for in a tight end prospect. Price is a big, physical player who can run, catch and block.

Over the last 2 weeks, Price has seen his offer list expand greatly. He now holds 14 scholarships in total including Big Ten offers from Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois and Minnesota. Based on our evaluation, he is certainly one of the best tight end prospects in the Midwest for the class of 2012.

Price talked about receiving a scholarship from Michigan State.

"I am really liking Michigan State University," he stated. It is definitely one of my favorite offers so far. I am very excited about getting offered by them. The coaches aid I did very well at camp on Saturday and they like me a lot."

Price has been making the camp rounds the past few weeks and that has been the main reason why he has picked up several additional scholarship offers. We asked him about his upcoming schedule and his plans as far as making a college choice.

"I think my camp days are over," Price stated. "I am getting pretty close to committing. I think I will make my decision in the next few weeks."

Like many prospects, Price wants to be able to focus on his senior year both from an academic and athletic standpoint. In addition, being an early commitment allows recruits to develop rapport with their future teammates as well as help recruit other players to the school.

Price had not been to East Lansing prior to Saturday so we asked him his thoughts on the school itself.

"Yes, I got a chance to look around a lot," he said. "I really liked it, Michigan State is a super nice place. I am looking forward to getting back up there in the future for another visit hopefully."

Another visit to East Lansing certainly cannot hurt the Spartans chances with Price. If he does come back on campus it will probably be to sit down and spend more time with the Michigan State coaches. That would allow him to develop a better relationship with his position coach (Dan Roushar) and see just how they would like to use him in the Spartan offense.

SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Price in the coming weeks. We have been very high on him since we first saw him at the Columbus NIKE Camp. Another positive aspect in Price's recruitment is that he is a solid student and has a strong work ethic. Those attributes will certainly serve him well no matter what school he decides to attend.
