Thompson reacts to SU offer

Eastpointe (Mich.) East Detroit prospect Ron Thompson is a very versatile prospect despite being knew to football. Even though he has not spent too many seasons on the football field coaches have taken note in a short time.

"This past season went well and it was my first season playing football. I was kind of nervous at times, but it went well."

With one season under his belt the offers are starting to come in and one of them he has at this time is from Syracuse.

"Syracuse offered me about two three weeks ago. I was excited about it because they are looking at me as a division one recruit and they don't have to do that unless they see something in me. I was excited about Syracuse."

Like most of the other Michigan prospects Syracuse has Tyrone Wheatley handling the Thompson recruiting. For Thompson the Orange running back coach is one person he already knew before the recruiting process started.

"Tyrone Wheatley is recruiting me and our relationship right now is great. He grew up around here and I already knew him before he got his job at Syracuse."

With the offer from Syracuse being new so is Thompson's interest in the school. Since the mutual interest is so new the prospect does not know much about the program.

"My initial thoughts are that I do not know too much about Syracuse."

Tyrone Wheatley has done his best to tell Thompson about Syracuse and there is one item that really sticks out at this time.

"There is a lot that Coach Wheatley tells me, but most of what he says is how they are building a family."
A visit to Syracuse is in the works, but an exact time has not been set yet.

"I was going to attend one of their one day camps this summer."

On Rivals.com Thompson is listed as a wide receiver, but if he where to head to Syracuse his position would probably change.

"Syracuse is looking for me to play defensive end, defensive end or tight end. Mostly though they are looking at me for defensive end."

The prospect talked about what makes him standout as a defensive end.

"When I play defensive end I have a solid pass rush," Thompson said. "My speed, quickness, and agility to get around offensive lineman helps me be a productive defensive end."

Right now Thompson holds offers from Syracuse, Michigan, and Toledo.
