2012 OL Josh Hess likes MU

Richlands left guard Josh Hess is one of the higher profile prospects in the 2012 recruiting class that's already starting to garner some attention from college coaches across the country.

The mammoth offensive lineman has already been receiving plenty of attention from the likes of Virginia, Duke, Boston College, Virginia Tech, and Marshall, just to name a few.

Standing at 6'7, 285 pounds, it's easy to see why so many college coaches have already come calling for the talented left guard.

The Herd coaching staff has already verbally offered Hess and he camped at Marshall's Showtime Showcase Camp in late July.

He attended the camp with teammate and fellow class of 2012 prospect Devon Johnson, who the MU coaching staff has also expressed interest in.

Members of the Richlands coaching staff have raved about Hess's work ethic in the weight room.

That same work ethic has definitely translated to the classroom for Hess, who carries a 3.8 GPA.

Hess and his Richlands Blue Tornadoes have been having a spectacular season this year on the gridiron and have coasted out to a 9-0 record.

Richlands has lit up the scoreboard all season long and have outscored their opponents at a dizzying rate, 429-130.

The Blue Tornadoes not to face any stiff competition until they hit the playoffs and have their eyes firmly fixated on one coveted prize: a state championship.

Hess figures to be a highly recruited member of the 2012 recruiting class and the Marshall coaching staff would love to see him suit up in Green and White.

Hess is one of the few class of 2012 prospects that will be on campus this weekend for UTEP game.

HerdNation got the opportunity to catch up with the mammoth left guard last night to discuss the college football recruiting process.

Below is the interview.

Interview with OL Josh Hess

HerdNation: First off, Josh, why don't you talk a little bit about how the college football recruitment process is going for you, man?

Josh Hess "It's going good though, I'm talking to a lot of schools. Of course Marshall has already offered me and Duke, UVA, and Boston College, they're all on me pretty heavy, so it's going real good. It's exciting."

HerdNation: I know you visited Marshall back in late July for the Showtime Showcase Camp. Talk about your experience in Huntington a little bit, Josh.

Josh Hess: "I liked it up there, it's a nice city. Marshall's a nice place. I used to go to Huntington when I was a kid a lot. My parents did work up there, so I was pretty familiar with the area."

HerdNation: Who would you say is recruiting you the hardest at this point, Josh?

Josh Hess: "Duke, UVA, Virginia Tech, and Marshall. I'd say those, Boston College, too."

HerdNation: Has Virginia Tech offered you?

Josh Hess: "No, not yet."

HerdNation: But they're just talking to you a lot.

Josh Hess: "Yessir."

HerdNation: What about favorites, Josh. Is there any one team that stands out to you?

Josh Hess: "I can't say that there is one. I'm trying to keep my mind open in this whole process, try not to have any favorites. Just weighing all my options out."

HerdNation: What would you say are the biggest deciding factors for you, Josh, in terms of the recruitment process.

Josh Hess: "Just the football program itself. I mean, I'd like to go in and help a program change things. If they're losing, go in and help turn that around and if they're winning I'd like to go in and keep that going. Also, academics-I'm big on academics."

HerdNation: Who's your lead recruiter for Marshall University, Josh?

Josh Hess: "Phil Ratliff."

HerdNation: Talk about Coach Ratliff a little bit, Josh.

Josh Hess: "He's a cool guy. He's funny. He's the kind of guy that's up front with you, tells he what he thinks about you and stuff like that. I just like him in general. He seems like he's a good football coach."

HerdNation: Talk about your guys goals' this season at Richlands, Josh. I know you guys have a pretty stacked roster and you guys have pretty much been steamrolling through people all season long. I mean, nobody's really come close with you guys.

Josh Hess: "Well, a goal for me, I'd like to make all-district first team, all-region, and hopefully all-state. Also I'd like to pick up a couple more offers before the season's over. Then, my number one goal is to get to the state championship. That's been the goal since day one."

HerdNation: You were talking about some offers that you're hoping to pick up, Josh. Are there any teams in particular or are you just looking to rack them up?

Josh Hess: "I like UVA and Duke. I think they're gonna come through soon, hopefully. I've just gotta keep working hard and keep my grades up like I do."

HerdNation: How are your grades in the classroom, Josh?

Josh Hess: "I have a 3.8 GPA. I make straight A's. I got one B, it kind of brought me down to a 3.8, 3.79."

HerdNation: Who's your favorite football player, Josh? Do you have a favorite offensive lineman or favorite football player of all-time?

Josh Hess: "When I was young, I wouldn't say young, about 12 or 13, I looked at Morgan Moses. He's from out in Richmond, Virginia. He's at UVA right now, but I've watched videos on him and read a lot about him. I'm an offensive lineman, he's an offensive lineman. That's what I like."

HerdNation: He's a heck of a ballplayer, man.

Josh Hess: "Yeah, he's big, fast, strong, he's got it all."

Hess and the Richlands Blue Tornadoes square off against Carroll County tonight at home at 7:30 p.m.
