Deacs high on Alford's radar after visit

Joined by his mother, Greenville (SC) Wade Hampton offensive tackle Brenden Alford attended Wake Forest's Junior Day Saturday, Feb. 25.

"It was pretty good," Alford said. "I liked the way the field looked, and I like all of the coaches and how they interact with us."

The 6-foot-4, 320-pounder added that he can picture himself as a Demon Deacon.

Alford said his mother was impressed with Wake's academics, tutoring and how most players redshirt.

He spent the most time with Jonathan Himebauch during the visit. Alford and Himebauch talked about how things go in practice.

"Coach Himebauch, he messaged me on Facebook a couple of times," Alford said. "He seems pretty nice."

Alford said he and Himebauch are beginning to build a good relationship.

He may try to camp with the Deacs this summer.

Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State and South Carolina have shown interest.

"I get mail from other schools occasionally," Alford said. "I get mail from Georgia Tech pretty much every day."

He hopes to visit Georgia Tech.

The mammoth tackle is working to improve his strength and mobility this offseason.

Last December he transferred to Wade Hampton after helping Dillon (SC) advance to the fourth round of the state playoffs and a 12-1 finish. Alford appears to be settling in well.
