Jim Grobe talks Clemson and more
Wake Forest (2-2, 0-1 ACC) picked up a must win with a 25-11 victory over Army Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Demon Deacons have little room for error if they hope to earn a bowl bid, and Saturday's date with No. 3 Clemson (3-0, 1-0 ACC) will not make the journey any easier.
Jim Grobe discussed the Tigers and more with members of the media.
On the win over Army last weekend: "Well it was a hard-earned win; it was a really physical game. I've played at Michie Stadium several times and had some good wins there and some really tough losses there. (It's a) really tough place to play, and I was proud of our kids. I thought, especially in the second half, they reached down and got a win, and it's certainly good for us mentally."
On the improvements made in the Army game: "We're looking at different ways to teach our kids. As coaches we're just teachers. Some kids learn in the classroom, some kids learn on the field. It seemed like we got more bang for our buck by working more on the field."
On the defensive play against Army: "I think going against the triple option was really tough for our guys. It was a really physical game and we got a lot of guys banged up right now after playing that one. Army is a very tough, hard-nosed, physical football team. We played somewhat of a one-dimensional football team, a team that's primarily a running football team, so that let us hone in on that a little bit. As you know, the past few years we've played wishbone teams, (and) we haven't fared very well defensively. It was good to get a great defensive effort."
On the upcoming game at Clemson: "We had a chance a couple years ago and didn't get it done. I think we know going down there is tough. Since I've been here we haven't beat Clemson in Death Valley. This is probably a year that is as tough a year to beat them as any year I've been here. They're as talented as possibly any team in the country and very well coached. It will take a great effort on our part. We've had some great games down there, and they've worn us out a couple times. We really have to go down there focused. We have to play for four quarters at a high level to have a chance. This is probably the best Clemson team we've played since I've been here."
