April 14, 2012Winston-Salem, NC - A.J. Marshall intercepted Tanner Price's pass and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown with 0:51 left to clinch a 21-10 White win over Black in Wake Forest's annual intra-squad spring football game.
"I saw the post coming toward me and I looked at Tanner and he looked," Marshall said. "I guess he was throwing to the tight end in front of me, so I kind of played in between the two and the ball just happened to fall into my hands."
Take backs were the theme for both teams as they forced a combined five turnovers (two fumbles lost by White and three interceptions thrown by Black). White capitalized most by scoring 14 points off turnovers.
"Offense needs to take better care of it," Jim Grobe said. "If our defense keeps taking it away like that we'll be a pretty good defensive football team."
Josh Harris led the way offensively for the White team with six carries for 40 yards and a touchdown and one reception for a nine-yard touchdown.
"It was cool for all of the fans to be out here and to see me actually play, because last season there were a lot of things about me being hurt," Harris said. "Now when they see me they're not asking is he healthy? Is he not [healthy]?"
The redshirt junior from Duncanville, Texas showed toughness when he powered five yards through the middle for a touchdown to put White up 7-3 with 6:08 remaining in the second quarter.
"Today it looked like he had a little bit of determination [and] a little bit of pop, and stepped up inside," Grobe said. "I like guys that don't mind running inside."
The White team had to overcome a 10-7 halftime deficit after Price connected with Jordan Garside on a 29-yard touchdown pass at the 3:03 mark of the second quarter.
