Dawson dreams to be a Deac
Despite earning Conference Defensive Player of the year and being named to the All-Northwest Team as a junior, Winston-Salem (NC) Reagan inside linebacker, Grant Dawson has managed to keep a relatively low profile.
The rising senior recorded 158 tackles and scored two touchdowns (one receiving and one rushing) last season, but the 6-feet, 225-pounder has yet to receive a scholarship offer.
"I've been to Richmond a few times," Dawson said. "I like that school quite a bit. I've been down to UNC-Charlotte and Elon as well, and I've been to a few practices at Wake Forest. I would like to go there [Wake Forest]. That would be nice."
Ray McCartney is recruiting Dawson for the Demon Deacons.
"I try to e-mail him at least once every other week, and when I go to practices and scrimmages I talk to him a little bit," Dawson said.
Dawson said his strength has always been one of his better qualities, but added he needs to improve his speed. He is running track this offseason, and that has paid dividends.
The inside linebacker shoots for the low 4.7's in the 40-yard dash, but said a 4.6 would make his day.
This summer he is going to attend as many camps as possible.
"I know I'll be up at Richmond, Wake, Charlotte, Elon, NC State, most North Carolina schools I'll be at and maybe a couple in Virginia," Dawson said.
