Wake leads for Gidney
Shelby (NC) Crest tight end Natron Gidney enters his senior season under the radar, but the 6-foot-2, 230-pounder showcased athleticism and versatility at the Rivals/VTO NC Elite 100 Combine in Charlotte Sunday, April 1.
Gidney, who said Wake Forest is his favorite, would fit in nicely with the Demon Deacons offensive schemes as an in-line blocker and H-Back. He also proved to be a reliable pass-catcher at the combine, earning top five tight end honors at the one-day event.
"I think I did pretty well today, but I think I could have done better," Gidney said.
This desire to get better will help Gidney down the road as he prepares for the MVP Combine later this spring and for camps at Duke, NC State, North Carolina and Wake this summer.
He visited Wake Forest for its Junior Day Saturday, Feb. 25.
"I loved it," Gidney said. "There's just something about Wake Forest that I liked. It's just like the coaches treat you like you're their son."
Lonnie Galloway is recruiting Gidney for the Deacs.
"I've talked to him a couple of times," Gidney said. "He's coming to my school in April. We'll see what happens then."
Gidney added no other schools stand out to him, and hopes Wake will offer.
He will be in Winston-Salem Saturday for the Demon Deacons spring football game.
Crest advanced to the state championship game on its way to a 12-4 finish.
